The lawmakers
Shamsudeen Hassan Basko, representing Talata-Mafara North Constituency, and Nura Dahiru, representing Birnin-Magaji Constituency—announced their resignation in separate letters dated December 3. Their letters were read during plenary by the Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki.
In his letter, Hassan said persistent crises, internal divisions, poor leadership, and the marginalisation of members at both state and local government levels influenced his decision. He added that remaining in the party was no longer consistent with his political principles or the interests of his constituents.
Dahiru explained that leaving the APC would give him the freedom to pursue political causes that better reflect the aspirations of the people he represents.
Both lawmakers thanked the party for the opportunities they had while in the APC and requested that their letters serve as formal notice of their exit.
Following his resignation, Dahiru officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
