LASEMA Continues Search for Missing Persons After Lagos Island Fire

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has provided an update on ongoing search and rescue operations following the recent fire outbreak at the Great Nigeria Insurance Building on Martins Street, Lagos Island.

The incident, which has reportedly left several people missing, has generated widespread concern among residents and the general public.

Search and Rescue Operations Ongoing

In a statement released on Thursday, LASEMA acknowledged the distress the incident has caused to families and loved ones of those affected. The agency reassured the public that search and rescue efforts are actively ongoing, with trained emergency responders working at the scene.

According to the agency, emergency response teams equipped with specialized tools are thoroughly assessing the affected areas to ensure that no one is left unaccounted for. LASEMA also confirmed that it is receiving support from other relevant emergency and security agencies.

Appeal to the Public

LASEMA appealed to members of the public who have been unable to reach relatives, colleagues, or loved ones believed to have been in or around the affected building at the time of the fire to register their concerns at the LASEMA Complaints Unit located at the incident site.

The agency explained that information provided will be verified and documented to help compile a consolidated list of missing persons. This process, it said, will support more effective rescue, recovery, and identification efforts.

Call for Calm and Cooperation

The agency urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with emergency officials, and avoid the incident area to allow responders to carry out their duties without obstruction.

“We remain committed to safeguarding lives and property and will continue to provide timely updates as the situation develops,” the statement said.

Conclusion

LASEMA reiterated its commitment to a coordinated and efficient emergency response, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation as search and rescue operations continue at the Lagos Island fire site.
