Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has begun the New Year with visits to new mothers at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, where she welcomed the first baby born in the year.
According to a statement signed by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady described 2026 as a year of “peace in abundance” and “prosperity in abundance” for the nation.
Visit to FMC Jabi
Senator Tinubu was accompanied on the visit by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulieman-Ibrahim, and the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Hajia Mariya Mahmoud, among other dignitaries.
During the visit, the First Lady welcomed the “First Baby of the Year,” a baby girl born at midnight to a 26-year-old first-time mother, Adakole Patience. She congratulated the family and presented gifts in support of the mother and child.
Celebration of Triplet Birth
The First Lady also visited Blessing Oragwu, who gave birth to triplets—two boys and a girl on December 29, 2025, after 13 years of marriage. Senator Tinubu celebrated the family and presented them with gifts, describing the birth as a moment of joy and thanksgiving.
Speaking during the visit, she expressed gratitude for Nigerians who made it into the New Year and reflected on the symbolic significance of welcoming new life at the start of the year.
Message of Hope and Encouragement
The First Lady encouraged Nigerians to remain thankful and optimistic in the year ahead, expressing hope that the New Year would bring peace and stability to the country.
She also urged Nigerian women to pursue opportunities with faith and determination, encouraging them not to be discouraged by limited resources.
“Nigerian women are hardworking. Whatever they feel God has laid in their hearts, they should pursue it. Starting small can lead to great outcomes,” she said.
Call for Generosity
Senator Tinubu further emphasized the importance of generosity, encouraging Nigerians to support the less privileged and make giving a deliberate part of their lives in the New Year.
She also directed members of the public to her podcast, Daughters of Zelophehad, where she said she shares broader messages of encouragement and faith.
The New Year visit underscores the First Lady’s focus on maternal welfare, family values, and social responsibility, while symbolically opening the year with messages of hope, gratitude, and unity.
