Obidient Movement to Remain in ADC Regardless of Presidential Primary Outcome — Tanko Yunusa

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Tanko Yunusa, has said the movement will remain within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and respect the outcome of the party’s presidential primary, even if Atiku Abubakar (former Vice President ) emerges as the candidate.

Yunusa made the where he emphasized the movement’s commitment to internal party democracy and adherence to established processes within the ADC.

Commitment to Democratic Process

According to Yunusa, the Obidient Movement will participate in the ADC presidential primary alongside other aspirants and accept the outcome in line with democratic principles.

“As democrats, we will go in there and contest equitably with every contestant based on democratic tenets,” he said, adding that the movement would remain within the party irrespective of the result.

While expressing confidence that Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, would secure the ticket, Yunusa maintained that the movement would not exit the party if the outcome differs.

Role of Peter Obi in ADC’s Growth

Yunusa stated that the ADC began to gain broader national attention following Peter Obi’s involvement, describing the party as having gained renewed momentum since his entry.

“With all due respect to the ADC, it got its traction when people came around and agreed. The vehicle of ADC kick-started with the excitement that Mr. Peter Obi has brought to it,” he said.

Support Base and Youth Engagement

Presidential Primary and Internal Competition

On the ADC presidential primary, Yunusa said the movement would compete fairly with other aspirants, including Atiku Abubakar, expressing confidence in Obi’s support base within the party.

“We believe that at the end of it all, Mr. Peter Obi will come out on top with the large population he brings into the ADC,” he said, while reiterating that the movement would remain committed to the party regardless of the final result.

High-Profile Political Figures Join ADC

Yunusa also confirmed the presence of several prominent political figures at a recent political gathering in Enugu, where support was declared for the ADC. According to him, attendees included former governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and former principal officers of the National Assembly.

He specifically confirmed that Senator Victor Umeh, a former National Chairman of APGA and current Senator representing Anambra South, has joined the ADC. Yunusa said Umeh actively participated in the event and served as Master of Ceremonies.

In addition, Yunusa confirmed that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has also officially moved to the ADC, noting that further defections are expected in the coming weeks as supporters obtain party membership cards.
