Governor Soludo’s ANSEC Initiates Facelift of Ojukwu University Trauma Centre

In furtherance of its strong commitment to strengthening the health sector, the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved the award of a contract for the landscaping of the car park at the Trauma Centre of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka. The contract was awarded to Triseconds Resources Ltd.

The State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcomes of the 25th ANSEC meeting, recently held at the Lighthouse, Awka, where several key decisions were taken.

The health sector, which has witnessed significant transformation under Governor Soludo’s administration, remains a top priority in the 2026 Budget Proposal. The focus is on delivering accessible, efficient, and high-quality healthcare services to Ndi Anambra.

The proposed budget, presented to the Anambra State House of Assembly, earmarks ₦162.6 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦595.3 billion for capital expenditure. These allocations are geared toward constructing new schools, upgrading existing ones, and completing critical healthcare projects across the state.

As part of efforts to deepen ongoing healthcare interventions, the Soludo administration is finalising investments across the entire health ecosystem. This includes the completion of the Anambra State College of Nursing Sciences and the construction of a specialist teaching hospital with a strong focus on oncology.

The governor has also implemented free antenatal and delivery services for over 161,197 pregnant women, including 594 free caesarean sections, all recorded with zero maternal mortality. This milestone highlights the administration’s dedication to reducing maternal deaths and improving health outcomes.

In addition, four brand-new general hospitals have been constructed in local government areas that previously lacked such facilities. The state is also nearing completion of the renovation, modernisation, and equipping of 326 primary healthcare centres, each fitted with solar power, boreholes, and essential medical equipment to ensure uninterrupted and quality service delivery.

Governor Soludo, fondly referred to as the “Solution Governor”—a title also acknowledged by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the commissioning of major projects in the state—has reaffirmed his commitment to completing the Coordinated Wholesale Centre in Oba, which is set to become the largest pharmaceutical drug market in Africa.

In recognition of his outstanding performance in the health sector, Governor Soludo was, in 2024, named the most performing governor in primary healthcare in the Southeast and nationwide. The recognition came with a total cash award of $1.2 million, comprising $500,000 for regional excellence and $700,000 for overall national performance under the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge.
